I’ve been using digital tools and tactics to organize communities and drive campaigns since the global justice movement in 1999 onward, and I’ve never felt a stronger sense of urgency than now. The same patterns at play back then have led us to our current situation. The world is face-to-face with a three-headed monster at the intersection of runaway climate change, broad systemic racism, and staggering economic inequality. Just at the moment when we desperately need massive changes to the fundamental structure of our global society, our leaders are doubling down on the ideology of extreme capitalism. A whole host of toxic policies lie in wait, ready to be enacted under cover of the next shock to our system – whether it’s a natural disaster, financial crisis, or war.
